Dorkestra by lisabell

Dorkestra

I attended my daughter’s orchestra concert tonight. She’s the second from the left with the blondish, wavy hair. She’s a senior in high school and has been playing violin since sixth grade. We have only one more concert to attend before she graduates and goes off to college and probably leaves her violin behind. Tonight’s concert was fun because a) the music was Lady Gaga and The Beatles and b) a local jazz violinist took the stage with the kids and guided them through some very lively jazz pieces on her electric violin.

The title of my picture is a reference to a comment someone once made to my daughter when they found out she played violin. “Oh, you’re in the dorkestra.” Wrong, kid, the orchestra’s for the smart, cool kids.
Wow, what a gorgeous shot. Love it!

@digitalrn @monicar @karenr @robinwarner @olivetreeann Thanks for the nice comments. This was my first attempt to take pictures in a dark venue and from a long distance away, but I knew I wanted to try and get a few decent pictures of my daughter performing for her scrapbook. I also got to use my monopod so that was fun, too. And obviously, I’m proud of my daughter and enjoy watching her perform!

Very nice shot, and what a nice memory you have captured for both you and her.

I couldn't agree more, seriously cool kids! I have three musical kids, my eldest is classical through and through and is just starting his third year at university majoring in composition. I love your picture it pulls my heart strings...

PS. to answer your question on my page - definitely a camera virgin although I suppose "arty" with an "eye". I have just spent forty minutes and many, many attempts trying to photograph the moon - I failed miserably! I am clueless about settings! Thanks for your kind comment.

@michellegaynor Your kids must get their creativity from their mother! I bet it’s fun around your house when your kids are practicing.

In response to your PS I was out trying to shoot the moon last night with no success so I searched the discussion section here. There’s lots of great information. I went back out and got my shot! I was so excited. Major breakthrough for me!
