When shuffling through my jewelry box, I happened across my grandmother’s wedding ring. It wasn’t until that moment that it suddenly occurred to me that I have both of my grandmother’s wedding rings. The gold ring on the left belonged to my maternal grandmother. According to an old appraisal I have, the stone in it is a spinel. The silver ring on the right belonged to my fraternal grandmother. I have no idea what the stone is in it. I’m amazed at how tiny both rings are as they barely fit on my pinky. I’m so glad that I have both of these rings, and in situations such as this it pays to be the only girl in the family. ;)
Their detail is really nice. You should really have them appraised and insured. Never know what could happen, but keepsakes like this are precious. I love family keepsakes.
I never knew they used Spinel for engagement rings. It has more of a sapphire or ruby quality if my memory serves me correct, from hanging around with a GIA friend of mine years ago.
@moncooga I was reading that it resembles a ruby, but lesser quality. My grandparents on my mom’s side were dirt poor so an extravagant ring wasn’t an option.
Those are both such lovely rings... they don't make them like that anymore, for sure. I wish I were the only girl so I'd have dibs on items like that! Such a treasure! (and a great photo of them... really nice focus and set up...)
Really cool Lisa! You should do something cool with them. Like have Mom make you a necklace, or a charm bracelet. Or maybe something else. I love them!! Great picture too!
