No, not her clothing! I’m referring to the wooden spools of thread that are in her sewing kit. I was lucky enough to inherit my maternal grandmother’s sewing kit, and it’s full of wooden spools. I love going through it because there are lots of little odds and ends she kept like old buttons and a used zipper or two. People of her generation did not waste anything. I cannot use the sewing kit because I like to keep it just as she left it. It reminds me of her.
I have thread-o-phobia. It dates back to wen I was in 7th grade, and they made the guys take Home Economics for a week, and the girls took Metal Shop for a week.
I put the sewing machine needle right through my thumbnail.
@moncooga Ouch! I never got to take a shop class. It was an option, but I was so into the girly stuff that I didn’t want to miss out. We sewed quilted purses. Is that what you made, too? :)
We have the "Sewing Susan" packet here, too! It was in my husband's sewing kit (which by itself is just a funny concept) that is made up of odds and ends from his mother and grandmother. It seems to me that you have a house full of treasures, Lisa, and you photograph them all so well.
I'm drooling over all your beautiful sewing things. My MIL often sends me boxes and bags of sewing goodness that she has collected over the years. She gave me a bag of zippers (50-100 used zippers) she takes zippers and buttons off of all her worn out clothes. She no longer sews but she still collects zippers.
@schoolnsuch Do you sew? I used to sew a lot, but now I mostly only sew when I want new window treatments. I was just getting into quilting when I had my first child so that went by the wayside! I recently gave away a big box of scrap fabric.
Yes I do sew. I am addicted to sewing. I sew 90% of what my 2 girls own (winter coats, hats, jeans, dresses, undies, PJ's, leggings and more). My son is 11 so all of his clothes come from the mall. When my girls get older I and refuse mama made, I'll start sewing for myself and my house.

Never again.
