This is one of my most prized possessions. This wagon was originally used by my father’s grandparents to deliver groceries from their store. It eventually ended up in my great aunt and uncle’s barn. As children we thought this wagon was quite the novelty and loved it when our uncle pulled us around the backyard in it. With its wooden bottom and metal wheels, we felt every single bump which only made the ride more fun. When I grew older, the wagon was rusting away, neglected in the barn. I asked if I could have it, then I took it home and fixed it up a bit. Although children no longer ride in it, it has become a fixture in my home. Once again, I feel lucky to be the recipient of a piece of family history.
Lisa, As an observer of your project, it seems to me that you have many family treasures about your home... it's inspired me to look around my own to see what I've been underappreciating. This is a great shot! The lighting really highlights the wagon's unique features...
Even without the background story this picture is wonderful. I think you've presented it like it's in an early American museum- archival and nostalgic. With the story, it's even more amazing. You've really honored your great grandparents by treating it with such care. I really like this one!
Hey, we had one like that and we had a big dog we were always trying to get to pull us (usually a disaster!) I like how you captured it with the shadows!
@erikadee Thank you so much, Erika. You're so sweet. I really do feel lucky to have so many "hand-me-downs", and I didn't really realize just how much I had until I started taking pictures. You might be surprised.
