Today I watched in sadness as the Tiffany Theater on the Sunset Strip's sign was dismantled. The theater has already been gutted and will be gone by next week to make way for condos. I spent many, many hours at this theater, I dreamed of winning the lottery so I could buy it and reopen it. Instead, I was a small part in preserving its history.
Aside from sentimentality, tthe sadness spreads as the city of West Hollywood are allowing a giant condo complex to stretch over this large portion of Sunset Strip-- no longer a destination for entertainment, the already traffic-challenged area will be impenetrable. Modernization is not necessarily an improvement.
