Old Chain Of Rocks Bridge, Mississippi River

One more from last weekend's excursions. A wide angle shot looking up the Mississippi River towards the Chain of Rocks bridge. Just a few miles north of St. Louis. This carried RT 66 across the river until the late 60's. It is notable for the 22 degree bend in the middle. As I understand, it was built that way to allow barges to better navigate past. Nowadays, this part of the river is bypassed with a canal.

If you look at the larger version, you can see the new Chain Of Rocks bridge just upstream, which carries I-270 across the river.
