Julia's driveway by ltodd

Julia's driveway

My very first night shot. I learnt a lot from the experience (mostly how much I don't know about night photography!).
My lasting memory however will be hearing the thunder of motor cycles as I was setting up - sitting on the ground in the dark wearing a full length coat, scarf & gloves with camera attached to the tripod. I look up to see the entire Prime Ministerial cavalcade charging straight towards me - about twenty menacing big black vehicles & motobikes with lights a-flashing. I pretended I was invisible & I guess the ASIO men didn't see me there on the grassy knoll, because I was not arrested for loitering in the dark with intent!
So... while this photo is sort of bland, it will certainly remind me of tonight's Parliament House visit. :)
Nice shot. I'd try it again just before the sky goes completely black, might bring out the silhouette a bit more. Great story to go with the shot!

Thanks @mikew - yes, the (under) exposure has a fair way to go. :-D
It was SO windy I had to keep the exposure length way down even with the tripod. Might give it another go one weekend with a touch more daylight light as you suggest.

I like how the light is capturing the flag Lyn. My picture tonight, on the way home, of Parliament House was much more abstract! I like how you can see the detail of the building in your photo.
