I stopped off at Regatta Point to take this shot. The white spray from the 'Captain Cook' fountain against the darkened sky was striking. While I was there, the skies darkened even further, and 5 minutes later these clouds delivered a huge tropical thunderstorm!
Oh how I wished I had a slightly wider lens when I took this shot - I really wanted to capture the full vista - the white spray and the threatening clouds over the sweep of the lake foreshore. The tilt on the horizon 'bugs' me, but I really want to keep the water spout, so let's all pretend the horizon is straight - OK?? :D
Hey, it's Lake Curly Pigeon!! So weird, because I came straight from seeing Pocketmouse's aomeba visiting Parliament House. Bloody hilarious! http://365project.org/pocketmouse/365/2011-04-17
Impressive storm clouds BTW!
love the compo of your shot..the water spout is very cool in the shot so I'm glad you kept it in although I understand your annoyance over the horizon.
So many different elements to look at in this shot that make it so interesting!
@tabbycat ha ha how funny!! - some of the shots from here actually had Parliament house and the library in them as well, (I was trying to get 'everything' in the shot), but that meant the clouds were cut off & it just looked less dramatic. mmmm, maybe I should have tried a panorama.... I did not think of that at the time..oh well, another lesson learnt I guess!!
Very dramatic and the kids look like they will be swallowed up by the storm. I'm all about tilt - posted a landscape shot where the tilt actually makes the pic. Straight horizons are so overrated! ;-)
@juanita .."Dutch Angle" hey? ... this wonky tilt has a name, (and a deliberate artistic purpose) ... so I can say it was intentional!! ;D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_angle is a really interesting read. Thanks Juanita. x
