This is the vintage champagne glass I use every Christmas day. This year, however I may not be home, so it will be a tradition put 'on hold'.
I have not tried any 'light painting' so this shoot was trial & error all the way. It took a few practice shots to get the idea - a 'magicians assistant' would have made things much easier! Every shot had a totally different effect depending on the path of the torch, and how fast it was moved. --- There are SO many (seemingly uncontrollable) variables, but like the food colouring in water experiment, I think it was actually the predictable-unpredictability (!!) that appealed to me - every shot was unique and not exactly reproducible.
I used a small LED torch in a darkened room, tripod with 50mm lens on manual (pre)focus, 2 sec exposure, and a 10 sec shutter delay made things easier too. (not sure if this info is interesting/helpful to anyone??)
If you look at this enlarged you can see why I should have spent more time polishing the glass :D
Thanks go to @leighj who gave me the torch as a present (courtesy of AACP)
Beautiful glass and wonderful shot. Thanks for sharing the info - the result looks so professional but maybe, just ,maybe I could try it too! And it is nice to put tradition on hold sometimes and shake things up a little....as long as the tradition is not lost forever.
