Have you ever asked yourself WHY you take photographic images? You just like doing it? ....why?....to keep the memories? but .. why?...
Now ask yourself ..why are you on 365? If it is to create a daily journal, you would only take one single shot a day! ... so what is it that drives you on?
For the last few months I have been trying to find my answer to these questions.
I discovered this deserted farmhouse the day I took this photo (7 Jan 2012). I became interested in digital photography because I wanted to know how to repair some damaged family photos and it has been a challenge for me to now 'age' this photo - lose contrast, add grain, and add blur, dirt, and even creases to the shot. All the restoration skills I have been practicing for years, I have now applied - in reverse!
I have even added the image of my Grandfather - an image actually taken in the 1930's in front of a very similar farm house. I did this because I felt this shot needed it - shots taken in the 30's were expensive and therefore people were photographed in front of their houses "for the memories".
So I finally understand why I am taking photos - they are about a feeling of 'connection' - to my past, the future, objects and to people!
Great job, Lyn. Love how you added a figure from your past to the shot. I just purchased a scanner to try to save some older pictures from turning to dust. And I totally agree with your comment regarding 'connection' - my pic today totally follows that line of thinking.
Hello Lyn. Many thanks for your comments and welcome message. The few days I have been on this site, the one thing that keeps happing to me is that i get side tracked! By that i mean you start by looking at one thing or intend to work through someone`s portfolio, only to be drawn away from it by someone elses comments and be drawn to go to their portfolio. Before you know it, another hour has passed by and you are no where nearer from doing what you intended to to.
That in my mind is one of the reasons i like this site so much. So much divercity and skill levels of the members that use it. There is always something new to be seen and new challenges to try and conquer.
The picture you have posted here is well.....Awsome, to use one word. I had to keep looking at it in large to see if it wasnt an old original photo .
Hats off to you Lyn for the time and effort you have put in on this shot. Your processing skills on this image are amazing. Well done, love it!
