an expensive replica

Inspired by the Jan Vermeer Artist challenge http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/23701/artist-challenge-80-jan-vermeer

Vermeer painted people - resting or doing things, he was a master at using light and placement of elements in his scenes.

Still-life is about placement but it is also also about movement - the movement of the light skimming and wrapping around the shapes, textures and colours that have their own ebb & flow.

oh dear, I just said fairwell to an antique brass lamp when the heavy oak frame lost balance and knocked my lamp to the floor...shattering the glass shade!! After that, it was hard to get the lighting & compositon I was really after, and I just wanted to be finished !

i love this! great styling!

Sorry to hear about your lamp. The lighting looks fine without it as foes the placement. The bread looks very fresh and it would be delicious with jam cream. :)

@denisedaly @grammyn thanks ladies - I am cranky with myself for not being careful enough, and how the lighting on the left of the shot could have been better. Oh well, life lesson learnt... :)

Ouch! Love the composition, beautifully done Lynn. I was going to have a try at the challenge, but a few of life's obstacles have got in the way :)

I am soooo sorry to hear about your lamp!! I know how that feels. And I wish the photo had turned out to be more than you'd hoped for to balance it out. But isn't life just like that sometimes?! Still, it's a lovely still life. I never got around to doing Vermeer although I love his paintings. Beautiful job!

Every time I look at your work I come away with a new inspiration! I hold you personally responsible for my addiction now to masks and layers - as in French kiss. :-)
Now you tempt me with still lives a la Vermeer, something I've been meaning to try for ages....

This is seriously fantastic work - I'm sorry about the loss of the lamp, but we do have to suffer for great art!!

I tried some still life after I saw Vermeer's Gurl with Pearl Earring tribute and the Dutch Masters exhibit. I liked my first shot but the light was not as good as my second where I got smart and had a window with sunlight coming in from side.... The way Vermeer really did it. This work you did here is great! Like how it comes out of frame! Fav
