@danette That's kind of funny, one of my best 4ths, I was in Florida! We had a family reunion a several years ago in Port St. Lucie and it was cooler in Florida than in Iowa!
@lynnz - One of our best 4th of July's was July 4, 2002. It was the first 4th of July after 9/11.
My wife and I were shooting fireworks in Carnegie, PA. It was our first "big" show. Since it was the first 4th after 9/11 the fireworks company we worked for (Pyrotecnico) sent out a set piece with each fireworks show that was put on that year. A set piece is made up of a wooden frame which is made into a design. They can be logos, but in this case it was the American flag. The design is covered with what are called, lances with burn and are made up of different colors depending on the design. In the middle of the show we stopped all the fireworks and lit the set piece and in the quiet even with our ear protection on we could hear the audience chanting, "USA! USA! USA"!
It was a very emotional experience! Thinking about it still brings tears to my eyes. We then finished shooting the rest of the show.
The one drawback about being a pyrotechnician is that you can't watch the show, but to hear the cheers at the end makes it all worth it!
