Dalkey Island with Howth behind it, as seen from Bray. This scene was one of my favourite things to draw and paint when I was young, before I ever took up photography.
The island is one of the best known landmarks on the Dublin coast - it's uninhabited now (unless you count a herd of wild goats), but the remains of settlements dating back to the Mesolithic period have been found there. The structure that's visible in the image is a martello tower, one of about 45 that were built around Ireland's coast to defend against an invasion by Napoleon... which ended up not happening.
