Porcupine-ish foo foo. by maggie2

Porcupine-ish foo foo.

The odder the plant, the happier I am. What the heck is this thing? It looks so delicate, but had these spikey things all over it, even on the stem. I wanted to pick one to bring home, but I was afraid of it. :-)
That's one interesting plant

Gorgeous Capture! Love the colors and detail. wonderful lighting! What it is - is a Teasel - has small lavender flowers clustered in an egg-shaped, thistle-like spike on a prickly stem. Mostly found in fields and roadsides, brought over from Europe. But a foo foo is great, too, Maggie!
July 17th, 2011

Whoa, what a great find. Nice shot!
July 18th, 2011
@rach_who You know, when you SCUBA dive, you learn that the brighter and prettier the fish/coral, the more poisonous it probably is!!

Margaret, you make me laugh so much!! This looks great magnified, BTW! The regularity of that spikiness is really quite mathematical!
July 18th, 2011
@tabbycat Tabitha, you're right. There is a mathematical sequence to this plant. That just makes it scarier to me. :-)
July 19th, 2011
I've never seen anything like this before. It's amazing! And I love the composition of the photo.
July 19th, 2011
