ROAD RAIL WATER by markp

ROAD RAIL WATER

One picture ,three transport options. I had not intended to photograph the Bridge AGAIN !
I happened to be down there and saw the Sun setting through the arches of the Rail bridge with reflections on the Mersey.Out came the camera, then the ship sailed past and I shot that instead.
A bit of history now, the River Mersey you can see in foreground has been there a long time.
The Rail Bridge, the longest in the world at the time, was opened in 1868. The Manchester Ship Canal, which the ship is on, was built under the bridge and opened in 1894. The Road Bridge was opened in 1961. The ship the COASTAL DENIZ built in 1991, is sailing towards Manchester and the docks.
The Manchester Ship Canal when it opened made Manchester the 3rd busiest port in the world, despite being 40 miles inland !
You forgot to mention that it is also called the Ethelfleda Rail Bridge mate. Tsk lol
