A rose with a stone wired to bottom of stem to keep it down, placed in a pint glass and slowly filled with sparkling mineral water, then click, click, and turning glass to get best angle. Oh and unlike myself, making sure etched glass standard mark is not visible.

However my camera helps, if I get in close with my 16-55 lens and zoom in to closest focus point, the camera has a built in electronic Teleconverter, either 1.4x or 2x which does not effect the focus distance but really brings it in close. You do lose quality though, you can get same effect by just cropping your shot afterwards but I find it helps to do it in camera because I can see what I am going to end up with.
