BOATIFUL

Day two.
This was one of my silly ideas, after getting the ferry off the Isle of Gigha I could simply have ridden about 12 miles up the coast to Kennacraig and caught the large Calmac ferry over to the Isle of Islay and then cycled across Islay about 20 miles to my bed and breakfast. Oh no ! Far to easy. Instead I passed Kennacraig on through Tarbert and up to Lochgilphead for dinner. After fish and chips, I got onto the Crinan Canal towpath and cycled through to Crinan passing the blue and red boats along the way. I then headed south to Tayvallich to meet up with the reason for my lengthy detour, the Jura Passenger Ferry. This is a small ferry, a large speed boat really, that can take take 12 passengers directly to Jura. I thought it looked fun. I was right, it speeds down Loch Sween, a sea loch with hills on both sides then straight out to sea over to the Isle of Jura. Top left picture shows Bumble making friends with three other bikes on the trip over. After landing at Craighouse, and washing all the sea water off Bumble I was left with a mad hilly 9 mile dash into gale force headwinds to try and catch the last ferry off Jura to get me over to Islay and food and bed. I made it with 5 minutes to spare.

Data. Three ferries, three islands, 62 miles cycled at a max speed 39 mph.
