Day three in Scotland and the forecast was quite good so I decided to go on a walk, but up here the walks can be quite extreme. I parked the car and set off though the beautiful Rothiemurchus forest ( pictured).This is a wonderful place of ancient woodlands, small Lochans and rivers, it is home to a variety of special wildlife. Keep your eyes open, go quietly and you might be lucky enough to see Otters, Pine Martens, Deer, Reindeer,and Red Squirrels. Rare birds here include Scottish Crossbills, Crested Tits and the huge Turkey sized Capercaillie. My plan was to walk up to the Lairig Ghru, this is one of the best known hill passes in Scotland. It links Aviemore with Braemar a distance of 27 miles and reaches a height of 835 metres (2,740 feet). The route passes though the central Cairngorms, one of the wildest areas in the country and is a place that deserves respect. It was a very pleasant walk though the forest, then I turned right and began the real ascent up the hill though the trees. Further up I saw a strange sight, looking down to my right, down the very sheer side to the river flowing way down below which I had been level with a bit earlier, I was stood in bright sunshine, below me it was snowing ! I continued up and just before I broke though the tree line I stopped for something to eat. The rest of the day is in my other album.
Absolutely beautiful shot - hard to believe your two posts were taken the same day in relatively close areas. Almost like summer/winter. What a trip that must have been. Your photos are just fabulous.
