The forecast was for on shore gale force winds, fairly high lunch time high tide, and rain, hail and some sunny intervals. It sounded an interesting mix, so I made my way to New Brighton. It is situated on the southern side of the mouth of the River Mersey, at the top corner of the Wirral Peninsula. The white tower in the middle of the sea is Perch Rock Lighthouse, there has been a light there since 1683, but this tower was built in 1830.
The crane and other buildings in the background are part of Seaforth container port, just to the west of Liverpool, that is on the Northern shore of the Mersey estuary. Another shot of the Lighthouse is in my other album today.
The b&w really brings out the textures of the water in this very rough water. Thanks for including the details on the history of this lighthouse; I always enjoy learning about the history of what I am seeing.
