DRONE FLY by markp

DRONE FLY

At first glance this looks remarkably like a male Honey Bee, it is in fact a Drone Fly ( Eristalis tenax).
You may possibly have seen it's larva, with lives in stagnant water. It goes by the lovely name of a Rat-Tailed Maggot, it looks like a big pale wriggly maggot with a very long thin tube coming from the end of it's body, hence rats tail. The tube is used to raise to the surface of the water and allows the maggot to breathe.
Another gorgeous macro
