" YOU THINK I AM COMING DOWN THERE ? THINK AGAIN !"
Up in the Cairngorms, it's the native Red Squirrel that rules the roost. Not a Grey in sight. This one, showing off his natural tree climbing skills, was quite happy to pose high up in the trees but would not come down low.
However some of his mates were happier to run around on the ground.
If you wish to see the rest of todays shots from my trip to Scotland just click on the link.......
@gamelee Thank you Lee. That was tough, Formby is normally quite good for them, I have had some great shots there. When you do return, take a pocket of peanuts, once you can get one interested in those, their mates come down and you should have a nice choice to pick from.
@colinbarber013 Oh, well good luck Colin. I hope you are as lucky as I was with the weather. Most of the time it was dry and sunny, cold or very cold, but I expected that and you just dress for it, and several heavy snowstorms. Friday was just beautiful, and I walked up a snow covered Munro just near the top of the Drumochter Pass. At times the snow was well above my knees, not the easiest way to travel.
Where about will you be based ?
We are going to be based near Aviemore in a place called Nethy Bridge. I hope we are as lucky as you with some great weather and good wildlife sightings.
@colinbarber013 Oh I know Nethy Bridge well, lovely village, you should see quite a lot of stuff around there. I don't know what you have planned, how much spare time you will have, what the weather will do and how active you are, but there is a pleasant and interesting walk from Nethy Bridge.
I am normally based in Aviemore so either drive or bus to Post Office in Nethy Bridge. Walk upstream by the river, then you go up through Abernethy Forest, eventually you get above the tree line and enter the Ryvoan Pass. Continue down past the bothy till you reach the Ski road up to Cairngorm mountain at Glenmore. Here you have got great views of the mountain, plus Loch Morlich and Glenmore shop and cafe, in there I guess you have about a 90% chance of Red Squirrels.
Out side shop you can catch a bus back to Nethy Bridge, its a lovely day out.
There is a sign outside Nethy Bridge PO, think its about 12/13 miles to Glenmore, I have walked back through forest in the past right back to Aviemore but that takes it over 20 miles.
It is fairly straight forward, but Mr Google will have full details.
Hope you have a good time, it's a wonderful part of the country.
@markp hi Mark thanks for the advice and tips were are up there for a week and we are in a small group of 8 with a guide so hopefully will get to see all the local wildlife.
@colinbarber013 Oh right, yes I know who you mean, I have bumped into him a few times as he has been leading tours around, I believe he is very good, and knows his stuff.
