CARRBRIDGE PACKHORSE BRIDGE by markp

CARRBRIDGE PACKHORSE BRIDGE

Thursday was forecast to be a nice day and I had a plan. Taking a camera with me I was going to go cycling, north from Aviemore to explore some remote lanes heading up in to a glen near Tomatin.
I wasn't going that far, well that was the plan anyway.
I passed through Carrbridge with it's famous bridge and soon reached Tomatin. This is when things changed, I decided it was too nice a day to stop here, and headed on towards Inverness. There is a lovely if rather winding cycle route up to Inverness and new plan was to jump the train back to Aviemore. As I was dropping out of the mountains on the approach to Inverness, I thought, no I haven't gone far enough yet. So instead of heading west, I turned east. I hadn't cycled that way before but I had a rough idea that there was a network of lanes that would bring me across to the main road between Nairn and Grantown on Spey and from there I knew the way back to Aviemore. I managed that without getting lost and after fighting a strong headwind whilst climbing a long drag back up into the mountains, finally dropped back down into Carrbridge and on to Aviemore.
A great day out, but at just over 70 miles rather further than I had planned.

Needless to say, I didn't take many photographs along the way, so the rest of todays posts are from the Highland Wildlife Park............

I love bridges, and what an unusual bridge this is. The arch looks just to big for the water it spans. I like your shot of it Mark.

You are not supposed to go over the top of this bridge? It must have lost the middle bit! The water looks brown but clear!
