Most of the old Widnes to Runcorn bridge has been shot blasted and re-painted, the Widnes side, three times !!!
As the first two companies got it wrong !!!
To do this they erected scaffolding and sheeting to make dry working ares. Most of the scaffolding is now down, but that leaves areas that the scaffolding was resting on, that still require painting. This is the solution.
@gamelee Thank you Lee, that is brilliant. No I hadn't seen it before. I notice the workers building the new old bridge have got no safety ropes. Well before Elf and Hasty rules came into force.
I can actually vaguely remember crossing on the old Transporter Bridge. One set of Grandparents lived in Runcorn, hence I must of made the crossing quite frequently.
Only being very young, I didn't realise it was suspended by wires. I thought it floated on the water and it puzzled me how it got over the wall in the middle of the river.
The wall being the Manchester Ship Canal wall.
Have you seen this footage. Priceless!
