DARK DAYS AHEAD

Fiddler's Ferry Power Station, just outside Widnes. It's due to cease producing electricity next year.
Neat industrial capture

so hard to imagine why we would still be digging stuff out of the ground and burning it - I can't say I'd be sorry to see this go :)

Amazing structures - all exactly the same! Hope there is an alternative energy source!

I know and so Adams isn’t known for anything but nature. When I saw this, it made me think of him. Beautiful.

My grandparents in law tenant farmed this land. They were moved so that this could be built. Grandma in law is still going strong at 92. Ironically the farm they chose to move to a few years later had a power station built opposite it. It's still there and has a few years left.

@newbank Its a small world. Very interesting. About four years ago, I was taking photographs from a viewpoint of them building the new mersey bridge. Directly behind the bridge, the power station was in view, it's pretty hard to miss to be honest.
Somebody else turned up, and I got talking to him. Turns out he was an architect/ civil engineer and his very first job out of university was building this. It opened in 1971, and he said it had a design life of 25 years !!! If it closes in March, it will have managed almost 50 years instead !
He was retired !!!
