This is part two of my story today,if you have not seen part one there is a link at the bottom.
After my dinner break, I continued up the mountain, past the special three topped tree, which I plan to post later. As soon as I left the trees behind, the scenery changed dramatically, much more desolate and remote. The path became much rougher and I could see huge mountainsides spreading out in to the distance on both sides. They were topped with large amounts of snow and this is what I hope to photograph. Onwards and upwards I went, the conditions getting wilder the further I went. Finally I topped a ridge and felt the full force of the storm force winds blowing into my face, I got up to where I could have taken my photographs looking into the heart of the Lairig Ghru, unfortunately photography in that direction was impossible. Those strong winds had started bringing snow, horizontal snow, and if I had raised the camera to take a shot in that direction the lens would have been covered instantly. I had to take photographs facing back the way I had come and the way I had to return by as the snow became heavier and began to hide the peaks. This shot is looking roughly north and from the far ridge Aviemore would be visible in the far distance. There is supposed to be a path somewhere in this picture but as you can see it is not very clear. To give you some sense of scale, the round lump the other side of the water, near the centre of the shot is a snowdrift about 6 feet high. I made my way back down and once back in the forest it was a very pleasant walk again, but I could see massive snow clouds sweeping over the mountain tops.
I was out for most of the day in a beautiful spectacular place and only saw a young lady mountain biker, an older couple of cyclists and one other walker !!!
That looks desolate compared to the other scene - it's a pain when the rain/snow covers your lens [I lost most of my weekend shots for that reason]. Lovely blue hue
What a contrast to the scene in the forest
