ENTER THE CROCUS by markp

ENTER THE CROCUS

I think this is the same Crocus from a couple of days ago, but something probably a Cat or bird had knocked it over and pulled the petal back. I just moved it to somewhere slightly more photogenic.

I mentioned the other day that the Magpies had started building a nest in the large tree at the bottom of the garden, well war has broken out. Three, do not know why it is three and not just two, Carrion Crows have decided that it is going to be their nest. So as the Magpies are busy collecting sticks they are also having to fight off the much bigger Crows, very noisy and quite entertaining.
My main album is also quite colourful today.

The center color looks like saffron which does come from a type of crocus. Interesting view of this. I never think to open one up.

I love the fuzzy centre and the scattered pollen you show in this picture.
One morning last year I noticed a bunch of sparrow just pick a small clump of crocus in the corner of my garden to pieces. I couldn't tell if they were eating parts or just taking out there bad temper but they sure went to town on those poor flowers.

@artbyclover @cindy_k @cailts Thank you all very much for taking time to view and for your lovely comments.

@gardencat Thank you very much Joanne, yes Sparrows do seem to like attacking these flowers, it is quite widely reported, but I can't remember whether it is for food or like you say bad temper. I will have to check that now.
