GREAT HALL by markp

GREAT HALL

This is what remains of the Great Hall in Noltland Castle, on the Isle of Westray. The castle was built by Gilbert Balfour, who was in the court of Mary Queen of Scots. It was built in the 1560's but never totally completed. The Great Hall was the centre of life in the castle and major feasts will have taken place here. I really liked the floor, it was very smooth, almost tile like.
An exterior view in my other album today.

This really is impressive - and to think how long it has stood. Wonderful capture of it.
