PIROUETTING CLANSMAN by markp

PIROUETTING CLANSMAN

This is Calmac's MV Clansman, built in 1998, 5,500 tons, 325 feet long, she can carry 638 passengers and up to 90 cars.

Yet despite this the crew can make her almost appear to dance across the waves. Here she is returning to Coll, in this position, she has quite a strong breeze blowing on to her starboard (right) side.
To dock, she approached the pier almost head on, then slowly spun around, getting very close to the pier, then as she straightened up she slowly reversed back and was perfectly lined up to lower the ramps for the cars and the foot passengers.

Watching this from a nearby hilltop being buffeted by the wind, you can't fail to be impressed with the skill of the crew.

The land on the horizon is the Isle of Mull.

A bit of an art, science and skill involved in maneuvering those big ships. Nice shot!

That really is quite a skill - like the clarity of your shot - color is great.
