This windmill was built in 1878 to pump water from the copper mines below. It used to have 5 sails.
In a rather novel set up, it was connected by a long series of rods to a steam engine house, and on windy days it was used instead of the steam engine, thereby saving coal.
Such an interesting history, this mine has - so much copper! Very innovative in 1800s to have power from a windmill! A somewhat desolate landscape nicely portrayed here!
