Okay so I am down by the canal, and I came across this old beer keg which was one of several being used as mooring buoys. However this one was different. As you can see the top, which has a raised lip about 3 inches high has got a collection of pebbles on it.
How and why ?
It is several feet away from the bank. Too far to reach over and place the stones in. Also you would need to be a very good aim and have loads of time to waste to try and throw that many stones into it. Bearing in mind you would probably miss quite often and many would just bounce out.
Maybe a very patient bird collected them to make the base of a nest on, till there were too many and the weight of the stones tipped it on to it's side.
