When I went out today, I thought I would go to somewhere I knew there were Little Grebes and see if I could get a decent shot of them. So there I was sitting in a hide, very close to the water. Camera was all set up on the tiny Little Grebes, zoomed right out as they were a long distance away, just waiting for them to come closer.
Suddenly, totally out of the blue, a much larger Great Crested Grebe popped up from underwater, right in front of me. Don't know who was more surprised. Absolutely no time to zoom back, a couple of grabbed shots and he was gone again. If I had got just his head, at least I could have claimed that was what I was after.
Not very often you see one of these, this close. Far too close.
