@dutchothotmailcom Thank you, Esther, yes it is part of a very elaborate courtship display. It is amazing to watch. I think all grebe species have their own slightly different version.
Try searching YouTube for grebe weed dance, or there are quite a few of the Great Crested Grebe ( a cousin of these), courtship, or display.
