Owned by the foundation 'Veerhuis te Overschie', this historical ferry house (1767) has been saved from demolition a few times and is being renovated for some years now. The premises is uninhabited and probably one of the few buildings in our country without running water.
The first thing I thought of when I saw the beautiful sunsets from across the water, over this rooftop for the first time, were the paintings called L'empire des lumiéres (The Dominion of Light, 1954) by the Belgium painter René Magritte.
I've been planning this picture for some time but I didn't exactly know how to start since it is really pitch dark at night and a very bright spot during the day. Eventually I took the photo at noon to keep the most details, which is important using my iPhone. Everything you can see is real except for the water which was recreated. And some objects were taken from elsewhere, like the sky of course, the interior and the lantern. Everything has been heavily edited. It was really great fun doing! Notice Magritte's most famous painting inside (see large version :-)
Mek this is stunning. Also I think your entry for the Gustav Klimt is stunning and for me the winner, which is why I voted for you. Your version is a work of art and so beautiful... so very well done Mek!!
