The 'Schouwburgplein' in Rotterdam is one of the dullest places in the city. Surrounded by unpretentious architecture, the square offers no fun whatsoever. Also it's not on any route. So, unless you are visiting the adjacent theater or the cinema built on the square, you don't want to be here.
Emptiness or spaciousness was the thinking behind the design. It's been taken a bit literally because there is really nothing there except a treeless wide open space made out of slippery wood and steel plates. Which probably makes it the most dangerous square in the world while raining or snowing.
During IFFR an information stand is situated in the middle of the square. I hope they offer first aid too.
@pwallis Ha! Funny thing is...Rotterdam is quite interesting for it's architecture and also in culturally. Unfortunately it is scattered and very hidden throughout the city. Don't worry. If you decide to visit our little town, let me know and I will carefully lead you around the square :-)
