The Erasmus Bridge was designed by Ben van Berkel and completed in 1996.
Shortly after the opening, it appeared that the bridge began to sway unexpectedly at wind-speed six on the Beaufort scale. The stay cables got new dampers.
In 2004, van Berkel wanted put an end to the 'abuse' of his design. He referred to his copy- and image rights and he thought that anyone who wanted to use the bridge for commercial use had to ask permission.
