The grass wall in the background is the levee part of our flood wall system. Many people in town think it is time to take down the flood wall to allow easier access to the river for views & tourism. The 1937 flood is what prompted the building of the flood wall. Today there are many more dams on the Ohio River to regulate the river. However, in my opinion, with today’s climate we may someday need the flood wall.
I totally agree with you. I grew up not very far from a levee on the Mississippi river. It depends on how one thinks of things. We used to have fun Easter egg hunts in one area. There was plenty of access to get to the lakes or river. You could drive on top of the levee then go down whichever road you liked to get to different spots.
