These are NOT raindrops

Nope, they're snow drops. Today, we had our first snow of the season. BLAH! So, I attempted to be like Jani & Paula and get some lovely wintery shots.
Editing consisted of Picnik's autofix, clarify and 1960's effect.
I'm feelin your winter:) It does look like raindrops, hmm. I like the way you've composed the tree and branch to the left of the shot here. Is the snow sticking to the ground at all? Perhaps you could get a wintery scene with the snow blanketing the ground?

Nope, unfortunately, the snow is not sticking yet. Hopefully it won't be sticking for a very long time yet. I hate snow. I was playing with my manual focus since @jasonbarnette and I were discussing that yesterday. I was able to get a lot more of the drops in focus with manual, but like you said they just look like rain. Once we get that much snow, I will absolutely try and get a better snow shot.

Want to know how I know you're not shooting in full manual mode? There is no such thing as 682 ISO :P I think you might still have the camera on shutter priority mode.

As for capturing snow that looks like snow...well your settings are good. F/5 for good DOF and 1/250 to freeze the snow (pun so totally intended). I think the problem is the editing. I think autofix in Picnik may be sharpening the snow flakes to make them look like raindrops.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong now, so I quit. But thanks for taking the time to view and comment.
November 29th, 2011
@mej2011 Nope. You're not quitting. I won't let you :P When you shot this photo, did you set the ISO yourself?
November 29th, 2011
@jasonbarnette
No. I have no idea how to even do that.
November 29th, 2011
@mej2011 OK...pull out your manual :P Cameras are confusing because you can have the camera in manual mode but still have auto-ISO turned on. You need to find out how to go into your camera's menu and turn auto-ISO off. Then, set it yourself.

100 ISO for bright sunny days
200 ISO for partly cloudy skies
400 ISO for cloudy days or interior with a flash
800 ISO for dusk or dawn
1600 ISO if you're crazy and don't own a tripod

Let's keep working on this. I'm not giving up on you.

@jasonbarnette
So my manual says that the camera has auto, High ISO sensitivity Auto, and Fixed Range Auto. However, it does not say where to find these, nor how to change them.
November 29th, 2011
@mej2011 It looks like in your Shooting Menu you can find ISO Sensitivity. From there, you can select Auto, Fixed, High, or select from about six different manual settings.
