This week I've seen the first Hummingbird, Eurasian Collard Doves, Eastern Towhee, and Brown Thrasher of the season. That being said, I figured I better get my Hummingbird feeders out asap.
Editing for this shot consisted of a crop and Ribbet's Cairo effect.
hummmmmmmmmm............ do thehummingbirds make that sound ? I took a decent pic of a white wagtail. Will post it for you tomorrow :) I thinks your feeder is super pretty, bet there will be loads of birds humming around
I only ever saw hummingbirds when I was living in the States. Such amazing birds - can't wait till you catch one! :) Lovely sunshiny edit you've got here. :)
@janim
No, they make a small "cheep cheep" sound. I'm not sure why they're called Hummingbirds. I have no idea what a white wagtail is so I will be excited to see it tomorrow.
@joa
YAY! I'm glad you got to see one! It was probably the Ruby Throated variety, which is what I have near me. It will probably still be at least a week before I see them with any regularity.
@mej2011 Yes, it was a super fun surprise to see one of them. Can't, for the life of me, remember what kind, but it was tiny and fast! :D And I always thought that the "humming" was connected to the sound their wings make.
@joa
You're probably right about the sound of their wings. I can't say I've ever heard it, they're too fast. As far as I know the Ruby Throated is the only kind in this area, so I'm sure that's what it was.
Hi Melissa, we are partners this week for the gp.
My challenge for you is to do a portrait, a family member, friend, or a stranger if you want. have fun!!
Do you know how hard it is to find a hummingbird feeder in downtown Vancouver? I was trying to find one for our deck for Valentines Day for Paul (he loves hummingbirds and they occasionally visit our sundeck briefly) - but couldn't find a single one at any garden shop downtown!! Anyways, good luck with capturing your hummingbird shot with this:)
@westcoastwallis
No, since I know nothing about downtown Vancouver, I don't know how hard it is to find a hummingbird feeder. lol. That stinks! But, at least you still get to see them occasionally.
Thanks! I am pleasantly surprised with all of the positive feedback regarding the challenge. But, I understand that it's not a good quality shot so it's not made the PP.

Not a self portrait though?
Darn. I would actually prefer a selfie. lol.

I see it as being realistic. :)
