@frankhymus challenged me to use shadows this week. Took a picture of someone watering their lawn. I tried rotating several ways, but none looked right. Hopefully will re-visit this theme again.

@mej2011 Also, if you look at my profile page - I list all the get pushed challenges I've done so far. My last one was a shadow challenge (just like your's but I didn't complete it yet.
1) an overlay photo (not HDR) but this is done in processing. I would suggest Picmonkey. 1) download photo 2) select Overlays 3) download your own additional photo 4) use the eraser and remove unwanted portions of the top layer photo. Any subject you wish but at least one of the two photos has to be within the challenge time frame.
