Young Jack-in-the-Pulpit.

I'm finding more of them around the yard. That's okay because I like them but it does mean the soil is getting wetter.
Is it a bad thing if the soil is getting wetter? Is this something seasonal, or something cyclical?

@seacreature Many years ago the town built a dirt roadway along the brook that forms the north border of my property so that they could dredge the brook. They built up a 6 foot high by 5 foot wide ridge of compacted dirt along my side of the brook. Now the wetland between me and the brook no longer drains as it used to. What used to be wet meadow is now a lot of standing water all year long. There is die back on the trees in woods around those areas and the water table has risen. Wetland plants are growing in my garden which is maybe 50 or 60 feet higher upslope than before. It's neither good nor bad. It's just different and brings different problems.
