Ants on a plant by mittens

Ants on a plant

My peonies are getting ready to bloom. The ants like them.

Thank you for stopping by and for taking time to comment. I love reading them and enjoy looking at your pictures, too.
This is so cool! Nice capture :)

I've never seen peonies without ants :).

How neat! The ants are hard at work. I hope your peonies last awhile. Ours bloomed last Friday and a wind storm blew them down that night :(

Mine look the same, great shot!

Wow! wonderful catch!..... Doesn't look like the ants are having any major effect on the plant (at least so far!).
May 10th, 2012
Fav, I will have to do the same shot in a week or two here. Great detail!

Pretty . . . great macro

This is great. I love it.

@cfitzgerald Courtney, mine always fall over after a rain or storm.....seem to fall after a day or two for me.
May 10th, 2012
@cfitzgerald @scooter Ours fall over easily, too. My husband has tied them up to posts to keep them upright and that has helped.

The large view is awesome! Great shot, and I hope to see one when they are open. I love peonies.

I love the excitement this brings, knowing soon a beautiful flower will bloom.
May 10th, 2012
Well they seem to love this plant, great catch; peonies were my Dad's favourite plant in his garden - thanks for that memory:0)

What a great capture, Marilyn. Love the detail of these flower buds but not the ants. The one insect that gives me the creepy crawlies.
May 10th, 2012
Excellent focus, and nice deep colours in the buds too.
May 10th, 2012
great close up shot
May 10th, 2012
Wonderful details - the ants are inevitable!
May 10th, 2012
Great shot Marilyn! @grizzlysghost me too! Why do the ants love the peonies?
May 10th, 2012
Beautiful shot of the buds and the ants. A friend told me that without the ants peonies wouldn't bloom. I don't know if this is true or not.
May 10th, 2012
Love all the detail....really cool capture, Marilyn!

LOL! I love this shot--so true!! Ants and peonies --they just seem to go together! I hope that Beth is correct because I could tolerate them better thinking they are needed for those gorgeous blooms. Mine are not quite this far advanced--can't wait!
May 10th, 2012
Nice shot of those budding peonies. They really do seem to attract the ants!
May 10th, 2012
The ants look somehow cute, working away on the little peonies:)
May 10th, 2012
There must be something very tasty on these buds........the ants always hang out there
May 10th, 2012
Neat shot. We too have ants all over our peonies. I am not sure what thy are after, but it is hard to get a shot without an ant.
May 10th, 2012
Great pic of them but get warned : Ants often farming aphids (greenfly`s ) They like the sweets they produce.
Have a good look at you/the flowers and leafs
May 10th, 2012

May 11th, 2012
The ants were all over my cornflowers I will have to check the peonies - they are a bit behind yours. Cool shot.
