Flare on icicles in front of trees

I was loving how the sun was flaring on the icicles hanging outside my window but had a hard time capturing the flares. Then I tried it through the screen and I got this. There are some serious flares going on here. LOL

Great shot Marilyn.
Can i help you here, as you have the same camera as i have EOS Conon 500D.
Go to manual, go and lift mirror, that's live view, and you can see how your settings affects the photo. onec you have tried it you will use it more often. good luck.

@dannydavies Thank you for the advice Danny. Once in awhile I have set the camera to be able to see the shot on the screen behind it but I've discovered I can't focus while in that mode. I get a little frustrated with it.
