Ice fishing anyone? by mittens

Ice fishing anyone?

This man is out in the middle of a lake ice fishing. At least that's what I think he was doing. I know I wouldn't be out there doing that. Looks dangerous to me.
A wonderful scene with the pop of red -- he wanted to be sure he could be found while fishing ! I like how you have framed this with the natural branches . You wouldn't find me on that frozen river !! --- brrrrr - too cold !

Very nice scene.

Very nice pop of red and great framing with the branches. Ice fishing sounds like an activity that would not be very pleasant for us Southerners :)

Awesome that they have the fishing hut red! No losing that in a snow storm! Pretty photo!

My husband and boys went ice fishing last spring in NH. They loved it. Much faster paced then fishing with a pole in the summer. But, my husband was a little freaked when his friend drove out into the middle of Lake Winnipesaukee (which is gigantic) and said we are now over 30 feet of water! LOL! But the ice was still 26 inches thick and you only need 8 to drive on apparently.

Haha, great wintery capture, love the pop of the fishermans shelter, he certainly has a lot of nerve, I would be terrified!!

Love the pop of red, a super shot

Not for me either, mostly because of the cold. I suppose the shelter gets quite comfortable while he's fishing but he still has to set up, etc. I like the candid shot, nice framing,

Wonderful winter capture Marilyn. Wouldn't do for me. I did once go on a nature trail in Canada and we walked on the frozen river but i can't say I enjoyed it!

Nice shot. I don't know how they can do this. I have a great fear of falling in.

fabulous how the red tent pops!

@leananiemand Thank you Leana. It is definitely still cold enough here for the lake to be frozen. Our temperature yesterday only made it to about 10 degrees F. The first day of spring won't be until around March 21. I am looking forward to better weather although I do like a nice snowfall, too.

Interesting catch and love the pop of red from his tent. I wonder if they catch many fish that way.

Great splash of colour

Love that red icehouse!!! We used to ice fish when I lived in Minnesota and in Alaska. I loved it!! We had a little pot stove inside to keep us warm and chairs and a card table to play cards while waiting for fish to bite!! LOL We used to drive out on the lakes and pull sleds or inner tubes behind it! Soooooo much fun!! Can't do that here in GA., so thanks for the memories!! Love that pop of red and the tracks of the vehicles going to the lake's edge there!! FAV!

@cashew Thank you Kathy. That is so interesting you did that at one time. Sounds like you had a lot of fun with it and I'm glad this brought back good memories for you. I would be scared to hang around out on ice on a lake.
February 21st, 2015
Wouldn't catch me doing that either but lots of people do it all over the place.

Great shot of this frozen lake and this fisherman!!! Love his little red house!!!
February 22nd, 2015
I don't know about the ice where you are, but here it's solidly frozen so you see cars and trucks out there on the lake when people drive to their fish huts. we hear the snowmobiles go by all the time. live 4 houses away from a lake.

I like this shot with the branches framing the red tent.

The shot is beautiful and the pop of red really stands out. Like you, I wouldn't go fishing in those weather conditions even inside that tent.

Interesting scene - nice pop of red. I think I'd stay off the lake too!

Wonderful composition & love that pop of red! I wouldn't mind trying ice fishing, but I sure would want to know the lake was COMPLETELY frozen. :)
