This man is out in the middle of a lake ice fishing. At least that's what I think he was doing. I know I wouldn't be out there doing that. Looks dangerous to me.
A wonderful scene with the pop of red -- he wanted to be sure he could be found while fishing ! I like how you have framed this with the natural branches . You wouldn't find me on that frozen river !! --- brrrrr - too cold !
My husband and boys went ice fishing last spring in NH. They loved it. Much faster paced then fishing with a pole in the summer. But, my husband was a little freaked when his friend drove out into the middle of Lake Winnipesaukee (which is gigantic) and said we are now over 30 feet of water! LOL! But the ice was still 26 inches thick and you only need 8 to drive on apparently.
Not for me either, mostly because of the cold. I suppose the shelter gets quite comfortable while he's fishing but he still has to set up, etc. I like the candid shot, nice framing,
Wonderful winter capture Marilyn. Wouldn't do for me. I did once go on a nature trail in Canada and we walked on the frozen river but i can't say I enjoyed it!
@leananiemand Thank you Leana. It is definitely still cold enough here for the lake to be frozen. Our temperature yesterday only made it to about 10 degrees F. The first day of spring won't be until around March 21. I am looking forward to better weather although I do like a nice snowfall, too.
Love that red icehouse!!! We used to ice fish when I lived in Minnesota and in Alaska. I loved it!! We had a little pot stove inside to keep us warm and chairs and a card table to play cards while waiting for fish to bite!! LOL We used to drive out on the lakes and pull sleds or inner tubes behind it! Soooooo much fun!! Can't do that here in GA., so thanks for the memories!! Love that pop of red and the tracks of the vehicles going to the lake's edge there!! FAV!
@cashew Thank you Kathy. That is so interesting you did that at one time. Sounds like you had a lot of fun with it and I'm glad this brought back good memories for you. I would be scared to hang around out on ice on a lake.
I don't know about the ice where you are, but here it's solidly frozen so you see cars and trucks out there on the lake when people drive to their fish huts. we hear the snowmobiles go by all the time. live 4 houses away from a lake.
