'And you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day '

SOOC
Well. I got my exam results. A B in Bio and a C in Chem. Burst into tears on the phone to my Mum. Had 2 frees but didn't get any work done. Went to one lesson. Found my tutor at lunch. He told me to go home. So I did. Why do I bother working so hard when it doesn't get the grades I'm predicted?! It all seems so pointless right now. Anyone fancy giving me the motivation to get my backside to school tomorrow?
I'm sorry you're so upset! Wish I could say something to cheer you up. Maybe the world looks a bit brighter tomorrow. I like your picture a lot!

Naomi, I'm sooo sorry you're feeling this way :(
I wish I had the words for you but really, I don't because I've been there too - in hs, I once put SO much effort and time into studying for a certain text and failed it, which really, really surprised me and put me off bothering with the subject altogether from that point on. I now wish I hadn't let it do that to me, but it did and that's just how it goes sometimes. It feels pointless, but it really isn't. Your effort will be worth it in the end. Chin up *hug*

Also, amazing depth here :) lovely earthy tones!

test* even... despite doing rather well in English :P

Beautiful photo!! Sorry about your test scores!! It really will be worth keeping up the effort!! Education is important, even if it is tough! Keep up your effort!

Well.....#1 you take lovely photos.

Now..#2 you can quit or get back on the horse.,.....I see you as a get back on the horse kinda girl.

If you are concerned about your grades enough that a C devastates you, then you are still in the right frame of mind to conquer the world.

This was just a small battle, not the war. (And if you don't plan on being a chemist.....not the end of the world either. If you do, you've got some work ahead....)

I think you are too hard on yourself. You are so smart and talented and I know it sucks to get a grade worse than you think you are capable of, but I think you should be proud of yourself for considering a C a terrible thing when so many kids would be thrilled just to pass, you know?

Keep your head up and definitely keep studying, keep going to school because there is always so much more to learn. I wish I could go to school again, there's so much more out there that I am curious about and that never ends - so enjoy the ability to just focus on that now while you can.

Oh and dude, awesome picture as always. I adore these beautiful close ups of yours, beautiful focus and detail and softness in just the right amounts. Gorgeous.

Well what to say? I never got any of the grades I was predicted (I got a B and an E and was predicted an A and a C and a D in a subject I dropped out of!!), I flunked the grades I needed to get the University place I wanted so I ended up somewhere that was 2nd choice. Sounds awful huh? Well, it wasn't - I had a ball at Uni, found the job of my dreams and I am doing really well now out in the big wide world. Most of my mates got fantastic grades and frankly hate the jobs they have! Know which route I'd choose to take every time!! Sometimes things just work the way they work. Seems crap at the time, but you are a talented and sensible young lady, just carry on doing the things you do - the best you can and you will get everything and more in return. School grades are the hardest test I reckon, once you're through it, things on that front get much easier! Chin up - a B and a C, I would've killed for once upon a time!!
By the way - i love the lighting in this shot.

Ah well, my son came home with two Us. No idea what to do next!
March 10th, 2011
Awesome shot, Naomi. I am completely agree with everything @gingersanders says. Don't give up!

Your presentation is good; you have an artistic eye setting up the proper focus and DoF making this an interesting photo. It shows you are a creative person. Having taught originally High School and after further degrees taught college and graduate school. In High School, creative persons don't do as well since standardized exams - particularly in Math and Sciences - test remeberence rather then problem solving in which creative people excel.

It's a bump in the road--and just one grade, right? Life goes on.
March 10th, 2011
The whole purpose of going to school and taking classes is to learn something--did you learn something? Grades are just that, numbers/letters. My opinion, anyways. I managed a magna cum laude in University and to be honest, Naomi, that doesn't really have anything to do with the real world.

The caption is so perfect for your experience...So I won't give you that advice!! You will make it. Love this shot, you do excell in your vision of what you want to capture with a camera you can do the same in school.

I'll give you motivation! You're in Year 13 right? Well, I was a straight A student right through until this point when my results came back with an A in Bio, C in Chem and D in Maths. So I felt rubbish, Staneff was disappointed, Mr Earl and Mr Shanks were disappointed, I was disappointed. But I still HAD to get AAB to get to uni to do dentistry so I got back on with it and worked and worked and came out with all As. So that's motivation.

And if it helps, I know loads of people who had the same blip in January exams in Y13. It's cos you started work for AS in September last year, spent every holiday including summer working on coursework or for exams and now you've done 18 months without a rest, so it's no surprise it doesn't go well at some point. And everyone I know who got bad results got what they needed in the end.

So, have a few days to rest and do nothing, then start again and resit in the summer. You can do it. You've done it before and you'll manage it again now, just like I did and just like my friends did. And hey, better to do badly now than in the summer. :-)

Anyway, I hope that helps and I love the photo. :-D

@karynromeis - See what I wrote above. Lots of students I know got bad results in the January of both years in 6th form. In Y12 because of the step up and really not knowing what to expect and again in Y13 for the reasons I explained. It's not the end of the world at this point and I'm sure he'll do fine and get where he wants to be eventually.
March 10th, 2011
@wormentude Thank you, it does, I'm in Y12 but still I see where you're coming from...I'm not looking forward to facing my teachers, Mr Earl might be okay but Dr Bryant will probably eat me.

excellent photo naomi.

Your photo is awesome, love the composition and focus. I think you have been given great advice above. The only motivating factor I can give at this point is, hey, it's Friday! ;)
March 11th, 2011
I have no motivational advice for you Naomi but I think you've been given a lot of good stuff from those ahead of me. All I can say is that you are clever, talented and a hard worker - all you really need to do well and I send you a huge internet hug.
Love your photo, beautiful focus and great earthy colours.

The closeup on the pine cone is perfect for your message today. We all focus on the big cone, but there are very tiny seeds inside, that will grow with the right conditions. That's you. Look for the seeds.

I was a mostly straight A student in high school and college, but I barely passed chemistry in high school. I promise you, it will not ruin your life.

This photo is beautiful. :) The lighting is incredible.

Like everyone has said, you are very talented and are an incredibly hard worker - a killer combination for later in life. Don't let a few grades get you down. I know how hard it can be since you've worked so hard and gotten a result you were disappointed in, but the hard work will pay off in the end. :)

Wonderful detail and I like the composition!
March 11th, 2011
Awesome texture.

I know that you think it's the end of the world, but it's not. You have to just keep going .... and keep trying. You can't give up. It may seem like a big deal but in reality I think there's so much more to life than grades. Value your life...and the gifts that you have. Hugs!
