"Just because their lives were short didn't mean they were tragic"

“She liked being reminded of butterflies. She remembered being six or seven and crying over the fates of the butterflies in her yard after learning that they lived for only a few days. Her mother had comforted her and told her not to be sad for the butterflies, that just because their lives were short didn’t mean they were tragic.” -Still Alice

I like this quote. It reminds me of Mum. Particularly because this was the last film we ever saw in the cinema together. Mum was becoming very unwell at the time, but she loved that we could go to to 'posh' cinema, because she got a carer in free so it made it half price. We shared a mini pizza (big deal because my eating wasn't great at the time!). So it's the latest page in my art journal :)

I have some really difficult decisions to make about uni/life. Since going back my mental health has deteriorated (not all due to going back, but it probably didn't help). Three people have asked me to consider leave of absence in the past two days. The problem is, I went a year later than my school peers (gap year), then did two years and a bit of a term (with a few extensions...), then took a year's leave after Mum died. Now I'm back part time so wouldn't be graduating until 2018. I've lost any love/interest I ever had in it. I'm not enjoying it. I don't think it's good for my mental health. I feel like if I take LoA again, I will never go back. But maybe that's for the best... I'm worried not having a degree will hold me back, or I'll regret it. I know my Dad/Grandad etc. want me to stay and finish, so I don't feel like I can ask them for advice. Additionally, I had a job offer today (sort of unofficially so I don't know a lot about it but it's exciting!). It would be a writing job that I could do from home, and work it alongside my other job, which might (hopefully) provide me with enough money to live off, and maybe start moving forward in life a little bit. But I definitely wouldn't be able to do both jobs and uni. It's such a pickle!
Those are big decisions. But this is your life and you have to do what is best for you. Trying the writing job and taking a LoA might be a good thing. If your life is miserable with school, why not wait until you are mentally ready. School should be a fun time in your life, not making you sick.

The nice thing about school and learning is that we can do that at any age. I went for my master's degree at an "older" age and am so glad that I did so because I did it when I was ready and when what I was doing was for me and was meaningful to me. These are big decisions it is true, but you can always go back at any age. Do you journal now?

It's a beautiful quote and good words to remember. And your composition and capture are superb. Go with your heart in your decisions. There are no regrets when the heart guides you.

I wish butterflies lived longer. They're the beautiful things in life and we need more of those. (The idea of keeping an art journal is such a good one.)

How true - the challenge is choosing how to make our own lives meaningful.

@naomi that's good. I don't blog. I'm formerly an English teacher and currently at home mom. You remind me of my oldest, who is also artistic.
