Went to see a fabulous ceramics exhibition this afternoon with the work of Pippin Drysdale and Warrick Palmateer. Warrick throws all Pippin’s work, which she then decorates (these pieces, plus so many more) plus he throws and decorates his own, totally different work.
@seacreature “throwing” is creating the clay form on a wheel. Who then owns it is an interesting question. Because Warrick is paid to throw the work for Pippin, it becomes hers. She did lose a major prize years ago though by not acknowledging that he had thrown the work. By claiming that it was hers alone. Since then, she always credits him.
@narayani Thanks for the explanation. It is what I thought, but as I am so ignorant about pottery I really wanted to clarify. Absolutely right that she should have to credit any other artists involved in creating a piece.
