I'm supposed to be finishing an assignment today but I got sidetracked. After seeing pics from @pistache and @ludwigsdiana with textures created from Hazel Meredith tutorials, I had a look at her website and blog. I found one of Hazel's tutorials on making a texture using brushes and followed along until she got to the Nik and Topaz parts as I don't have those. I also created a separate texture of my own by adding an "old paper" brush to the texture I made following Hazel. I put Hazel's texture layer and my own onto one of my boring landscape pics and added a bit of burning round the edges. This is nothing like the image Hazel produced, and it was all very trial and error, playing around with different things, but I liked the moodiness I ended up with.
ooh yes, nick - love this outcome. your processing is so fitting for the barn and landscape. i might check out that 'old paper' brush if it comes with photoshop - there are so many in there!
@aikiuser Thanks Jenn. Here's the tutorial I followed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVEvCzT1ODA
@pistache Thanks Clare. The Old Paper brushes came from Brusheezy. Lots of brushes on there are free.
Here's the boring original photo: https://365project.org/nickspicsnz/second-album/2020-10-17 I didn't do anything other than add the two texture layers, mask out a bit of one layer over the grass at 100% opacity and the other layer using a low percentage opacity brush over the grass and barn, and add a bit of burn round the edges.
P.S. Still managed to get my assignment finished and submitted by the deadline :)
