10 out of 10 potatoes can't read or write by northy

10 out of 10 potatoes can't read or write

tragic, isn't it?

i have *no* idea where this comes from or what it signifies... other than the fact that this is a statement one of my 11 year olds interjects into the conversation when he is trying to change the subject... first world problems, doncha know ;p

as a complete aside, this is "sooc"... because of this conversation here:
http://365project.org/discuss/general/25732/sooc-silly-or-over-confident

i would say i am not a fan of "sooc", but the reality is that i just don't believe in the concept... i'll make my own decisions on settings and processing thank you very much - whether they are applied before or after i press the shutter...

i have set the picture style to a user-defined monochrome with extra sharpening and contrast...
That is too funny! Quite an inspiring concept though! Fabulous story and shot!

Super shot, light, comp...what about Mr. Potato Head? :)

There is a portly figure here hiding in this potato and its probably him who can read and write!

it sort of looks like an inverted head. with many eyes. you know, like a potato. :-)

It almost looks like it has a face, for heaven's sake. Don't let those kids draw you off-sides. ;)

Excellent photo

Excellent lighting, as usual. I do like a good spud.

Great abstract shot:)

Simple and eye-catching. Who would have thought I would say that about a potato!
June 19th, 2015
Dang, you made that tato look good!

Spuds deserve sometime in the spotlight, they should never be underrated.

This is so reminiscent of some course I went on where the first exercise was to choose a potato, make friends with it, then introduce it to the rest of the group. I can't remember anything about the course, but I can remember that exercise. (It would have been on child development and the exercise was about individuality.)

Great effective shot!

Sounds an interesting chap to chat to! Great shot.

Ha I enjoyed this. Lovely lighting

SOOC is lovely idea but every shot gets a little better with a touch of processing. My opinion. For me I am still trying to learn to make good choices before I snap. Your potato has personality - eyes, nose, belly button.

Those potato statistics are horribly depressing what is the world coming to? Great shot!

And yet the potato looks happy. Who are we to push our expectations on the potato? So ethnocentric. Spudtacular shot!

Sue
I'd love to know how you get lighting like this. Potatoes do have 'eyes' so how do we know they can't read?

@m9f9l most excellent perspective... Very true!

@shannejw ok - that's pretty wild! Sounds like a great exercise :)

@sueb47 tx Sue... I use a cheap ikea gooseneck lamp :)

Got a new toy?- I don't mean the potato:)

@joemuli uhm... No... ???

FAV! Who else could make such a great shot of a potato? Processing can be so frustrating, but I agree with you about SOOC. Why would we leave artistic decisions to a bunch of software geeks who have programmed the camera?

Hehehe cool way to change the subject I must remember that!
Very cool shot as usual love your lighting :)
June 26th, 2015
This guy needs some exercise.....I think his neck is merging with his waistline!! Very cool shot, and thanks for the tip on the lighting!!
June 27th, 2015
I never knew that about potatoes. :-)
