This is it! The last remains of some great memories from this holiday! We took down the Christmas Tree today and all of the decorations! Its a little sad to watch the girls pack away the ornaments and decorations. I just think how old they are getting and how next year they will be so grown up, maybe not believing, this could be the end of those fond memories of excitement waiting for Santa to come! As I drag the Tree to the curb for the trash-man I can't help but shed a tear over the feelings only a parent can understand!
Then I step back into the house and notice how much room there is without the tree there and how bright the sun is inside with out the decorations all over the windows! Its time for a clean slate! Time to get rid of the stuff collecting up and look forward to the stuff life has in store for us this year! Suddenly I'm excited to climb up in the attic with the last box and and prepare for whats ahead!
That's always how I feel - I'm the kind of person, though, that would like to get up in the morning on December 26th and see it all put away! If I could pay someone to do it in the night, I would. ;) Cool shot, as always!
Beautiful shot =) I'm definitely with you on the clean slate and purging old stuff. I know my daughter went from not really getting the point last year, to be so amazed by Christmas this year. So quick how they change.
Wow - it's just as though I've written down MY thoughts here.... We've been thinking the same thing this afternoon, and doing the same tasks. Great shot to sum all that up!
Don't lose heart Jerry. My kids, 22, 21, 18 and 15 have never let on that they don't believe ;o) Our Christmas was as magical this year as it ever has been. Belief is more to do with tradition and feelings and family and togetherness than anything else. Lovely shot xx
Great new year shot Jerry - and you're so right about the moving of the tree creating new space you'd fogotten about so quickly - I'm sure there is something behind that!
@kimmiesue Thank you so much, Kim! I'm glad I'm not alone! :) @psychographer I trust you, Lisa! :) It will still be fun and full of great memories! @joannebradbury Thank you, Jo! Happy New Year! @lluniau Thanks, Elin! I know! Sometimes I'm a big softy! @looseimages I wanted to, too! But if you could have seen that tree you would have taken it down a week ago! Talk about a fire hazard! ;) @grecican Thanks, Tina! I should have shot the one I stepped on to really make the point! ;) @carrapeta00 Thank you, Lara! @shellbelle Me too! :) @sparkle Its great! I didn't realize how much I was tripping on all this stuff! :)
Awesome dof! I've just started taking the decorations down and ive got a long, not very fun road ahead. I do look forward to having more room though and I should do the purging also.
I was thinking the same this morning whilst packing ours away. here's to a happy and healthy new year. great shot by the way, love the angle and focus.
Nice shot jerry....I love the frost effect on the ornament.....I agree with the clean start thing....it's my big theme too at this time of year,,,,,,,...
Don't worry, your kids are still young enough that you have years of fun times with them to look forward to. I agree with what Lisa said, it's more about the traditions than the belief , oh good shot
I've been putting off taking down the tree - I just get such a kick out of the pretty lights. They cheer me up when the sun goes down, but, you're right. We need to get back to normal and I need my space cleared out. Guess I'm just a big kid, at heart!
Lovely shot. ....and I must laugh because our photos are similar but are situation so different. Mine are still so young....and while trying to help put away the decorations my 6 yr old dropped an ornament and it broke. They grow so fast though. .... wonderful sentiment with your pic.
I don't have kids but can agree with your feelings about the sudden room enlargement when you've put the decs away & starting a new slate for another year, nice shot :)
Kids grow up so fast, don't they? I feel it too, when I look at my son. That's a great shot, Jerry! Having read your description, I see your photograph and feel a little sad. But a new year will bring new challenges, new adventures, new fun! Time flies, but we will find a way to fly along and keep our spirits aloft, too. 8D
Yep it's back to work. Ugh! Holidays over but it was fun sharing it with the 365 crowd. You expressed beautiful sentiment too. This is a cool shot Jerry. I really like your POV and Dof.
Sentiment. A picture may say 1000 words, but a picture without words is but a cryptic challenge. As an African curator once said to me.. the interest is not in what exists within the frame, but what exists beyond the censorship imposed by the photographer.... I like your words; they give meaning to your visual art.
A touching story apt for the photo. I'm a parent so I really feel what you feel. We don't put up Christmas tree due to space constraints. All we have are simple Christmas decors on the center table and one on the shelf, and a self-made lantern perpetually hanging in one corner of the house, My girls don't want putting them away. They said they want our home to be a place where everyday is Christmas.
Lovely shot and touching story. It does pass so quickly. But the good news is that we just get to enjoy our children at different stages in their lives. It just changes with each stage having its own beauty
Your words are so true, Jerry. It's so nice to know that fathers feel the same emotions that mothers feel especially for these precious times with our children. My hubby's a very creative man who just holds those thoughts inside and even though we've been married 25 years and our boys are grown, I'm sure he feels the same way. I just don't get to hear it from him. Thank you for that! :o)
@beautifulthing Me too! Its such a hassle! ;P Sounds like a job opening for someone! :)
This photo is lovely. Thanks for sharing!
@psychographer I trust you, Lisa!
Talk about a fire hazard! ;)
@grecican Thanks, Tina! I should have shot the one I stepped on to really make the point! ;)
@carrapeta00 Thank you, Lara!
@shellbelle Me too! :)
@sparkle Its great! I didn't realize how much I was tripping on all this stuff! :)
