On to a new year! by orangecrush

On to a new year!

This is it! The last remains of some great memories from this holiday! We took down the Christmas Tree today and all of the decorations! Its a little sad to watch the girls pack away the ornaments and decorations. I just think how old they are getting and how next year they will be so grown up, maybe not believing, this could be the end of those fond memories of excitement waiting for Santa to come! As I drag the Tree to the curb for the trash-man I can't help but shed a tear over the feelings only a parent can understand!
Then I step back into the house and notice how much room there is without the tree there and how bright the sun is inside with out the decorations all over the windows! Its time for a clean slate! Time to get rid of the stuff collecting up and look forward to the stuff life has in store for us this year! Suddenly I'm excited to climb up in the attic with the last box and and prepare for whats ahead!
Great metaphor for the New year!! Wonderful Jerry.

That's always how I feel - I'm the kind of person, though, that would like to get up in the morning on December 26th and see it all put away! If I could pay someone to do it in the night, I would. ;) Cool shot, as always!
January 2nd, 2012
Beautiful shot =) I'm definitely with you on the clean slate and purging old stuff. I know my daughter went from not really getting the point last year, to be so amazed by Christmas this year. So quick how they change.
January 2nd, 2012
@bdb3471 Thanks, Brian! :)
@beautifulthing Me too! Its such a hassle! ;P Sounds like a job opening for someone! :)
January 2nd, 2012
Wow - it's just as though I've written down MY thoughts here.... We've been thinking the same thing this afternoon, and doing the same tasks. Great shot to sum all that up!
January 2nd, 2012
Don't lose heart Jerry. My kids, 22, 21, 18 and 15 have never let on that they don't believe ;o) Our Christmas was as magical this year as it ever has been. Belief is more to do with tradition and feelings and family and togetherness than anything else. Lovely shot xx

January 2nd, 2012
I know that feeling... nice way to remember the moment.
January 2nd, 2012
It is sad, and everything looks so bare afterwards, but i am looking forward to spring and summer again now.
January 2nd, 2012
Great new year shot Jerry - and you're so right about the moving of the tree creating new space you'd fogotten about so quickly - I'm sure there is something behind that!
January 2nd, 2012
I'm having the same feelings. Sad because the house looks so bare. Happy because it's so lovely outside... spring is around the corner!

This photo is lovely. Thanks for sharing!
January 2nd, 2012
Love your dof and story:) amen to that!
January 2nd, 2012

@psychographer I trust you, Lisa! :) It will still be fun and full of great memories!
@joannebradbury Thank you, Jo! Happy New Year!
@lluniau Thanks, Elin! I know! Sometimes I'm a big softy!
@looseimages I wanted to, too! But if you could have seen that tree you would have taken it down a week ago! Talk about a fire hazard! ;)
@grecican Thanks, Tina! I should have shot the one I stepped on to really make the point! ;)
@carrapeta00 Thank you, Lara!
@shellbelle Me too! :)
@sparkle Its great! I didn't realize how much I was tripping on all this stuff! :)
January 2nd, 2012
Great shot. Love the composition and your DOF. The detail in the closest ornament is stunning.
January 2nd, 2012
Awesome dof! I've just started taking the decorations down and ive got a long, not very fun road ahead. I do look forward to having more room though and I should do the purging also.
January 2nd, 2012
I was thinking the same this morning whilst packing ours away. here's to a happy and healthy new year. great shot by the way, love the angle and focus.
January 2nd, 2012

January 2nd, 2012
Looking forward and being positive are great things! I like this shot very much for it's shallow DOF and the terrific tones.

Nice shot, Its a task I hate taking down the decorations. Can't wait to put them up again.
January 2nd, 2012
Don't worry, your kids are still young enough that you have years of fun times with them to look forward to. I agree with what Lisa said, it's more about the traditions than the belief , oh good shot
January 2nd, 2012
Great after season shot, Jerry. Happy New Year to you, too. Just posted my final pic of my project - that year went by way too fast! :)
January 2nd, 2012
The ornaments look spent, just as many of us feel after the holidays.
January 2nd, 2012
nice capture! :)
great focus!
January 2nd, 2012
good angle and reflection in your soliloquy
January 2nd, 2012

January 2nd, 2012
@sciroccojade Lol! I'm usually not so on top of it! ;)
January 2nd, 2012
I've been putting off taking down the tree - I just get such a kick out of the pretty lights. They cheer me up when the sun goes down, but, you're right. We need to get back to normal and I need my space cleared out. Guess I'm just a big kid, at heart!
January 2nd, 2012
I love this shot and your description - we haven't taken our decorations down yet, but I think it's time to - clean the slate and look ahead!
January 2nd, 2012
Well said! You captured those end of Christmas feelings perfectly

bittersweet...happy new year to you and yours!
January 3rd, 2012
I have been having the same thoughts about how time is flying by with my son. It is so crazy to see how quickly they grow. Great shot.
January 3rd, 2012
Lovely shot. ....and I must laugh because our photos are similar but are situation so different. Mine are still so young....and while trying to help put away the decorations my 6 yr old dropped an ornament and it broke. They grow so fast though. .... wonderful sentiment with your pic.
January 3rd, 2012
great shot Jerry!
January 3rd, 2012
beautiful image and beautiful words. I really need to take my tree down, too. it's time for a fresh start. . .
January 3rd, 2012
Always hate taking everything down....the holidays fly by way too fast! Thanks for this final Christmas shot :)
January 3rd, 2012

January 3rd, 2012
Happy New Year and love the dof here! Great shot!
January 3rd, 2012
Super---and love the words :)
January 3rd, 2012
I don't have kids but can agree with your feelings about the sudden room enlargement when you've put the decs away & starting a new slate for another year, nice shot :)
January 3rd, 2012
Love the shot. Touching description.
January 3rd, 2012
Great shot. And how true your words are.
January 3rd, 2012
Kids grow up so fast, don't they? I feel it too, when I look at my son. That's a great shot, Jerry! Having read your description, I see your photograph and feel a little sad. But a new year will bring new challenges, new adventures, new fun! Time flies, but we will find a way to fly along and keep our spirits aloft, too. 8D
January 3rd, 2012
Yep it's back to work. Ugh! Holidays over but it was fun sharing it with the 365 crowd. You expressed beautiful sentiment too. This is a cool shot Jerry. I really like your POV and Dof.
January 3rd, 2012

Sentiment. A picture may say 1000 words, but a picture without words is but a cryptic challenge. As an African curator once said to me.. the interest is not in what exists within the frame, but what exists beyond the censorship imposed by the photographer.... I like your words; they give meaning to your visual art.
January 3rd, 2012
very creative shot, they do grow up fast & they treasure the memories you help make. Happy New Year!
January 3rd, 2012
Great shot, onto the New Year!
January 3rd, 2012
A touching story apt for the photo. I'm a parent so I really feel what you feel. We don't put up Christmas tree due to space constraints. All we have are simple Christmas decors on the center table and one on the shelf, and a self-made lantern perpetually hanging in one corner of the house, My girls don't want putting them away. They said they want our home to be a place where everyday is Christmas.
January 3rd, 2012
Now that's the way to tackle the New Year....
January 3rd, 2012
Love the message =) Great job
January 3rd, 2012
Lovely shot and touching story. It does pass so quickly. But the good news is that we just get to enjoy our children at different stages in their lives. It just changes with each stage having its own beauty
January 3rd, 2012
so glad that they help put away the ornaments and I say let them hold on to Santa as long as they want.
January 3rd, 2012
Touching sentiments and words Jerry...onto the new year indeed!! Happy new year to you and family :D
January 3rd, 2012
Will you come and take down my tree please ;) Cool shot btw!
January 3rd, 2012
happy new year..you are such a talent
January 4th, 2012
Your words are so true, Jerry. It's so nice to know that fathers feel the same emotions that mothers feel especially for these precious times with our children. My hubby's a very creative man who just holds those thoughts inside and even though we've been married 25 years and our boys are grown, I'm sure he feels the same way. I just don't get to hear it from him. Thank you for that! :o)
January 5th, 2012
Oh, and this shot is amazing, BTW!
January 5th, 2012
Cute shot Jerry :)
January 5th, 2012

January 6th, 2012
@soozieqt Thank you so much, Susan! You are so sweet! I'm sure he feels that way too!
