So, I'm not very comfortable going into the streets and doing the street photography thing. I don't really know what it is about it that's makes me uncomfortable. I'm really not a shy person, in fact I kind of get a kick out of joking and messing with strangers. But for some reason...
This project is all about learning and stretching yourself in the name of photography. So here is one of my attempts at street photography. This is one of the things I wanted to challenge myself with on my second year. Next time I'll have to try it without hiding like a stalker and get a little closer! ;o)
This is a GREAT shot! I think it's very compelling! I've actually been thinking about street photography, too. I've been following Eric Kim ( http://erickimphotography.com/), and he has some pretty cool tips (and stories!) on his blog. Hopefully that helps! =)
Actually I like the Distance Better ! It really adds to the Depth of the Photo and your Title! Love the Black and White and all the cool tiles and bricks..I think Street Photography may be a winning ave for you!
i know what you mean. i took some photos at the beach in florida of some people that just got out of their boat but where far away -- just made a very nice picture with them playing in the sand.
but i am hesitant to use it as not sure i want people doing that to me. yet if i ask they are usually happy to let me take a picture and sometimes even ask me too.
this is very nice in the lines and composition.
great feeling of loneliness with the curve and person in the distance. And I don't do much street photography because I wouldn't want to embarrass people - put them on-line to be commented about, sometimes unpleasantly. A group of people in a scene is different or where you can't see who they are, even if I know. It really doesn't help living in a small town and knowing someone in most of the candid shots I take.
I like the way you kept the man at a distance. It gives the feeling like he's the only person in the whole world except now I see a few people walking on the sidewalk in the background ;-) Terrific perspective and the b & w is perfect for the whole scene.
I know what you mean about taking street shots , some people can get quite annoyed , not that I have that experience . I ask first. This guy looks as though he was trying to get as far as possible away lol
Oh i hear ya!! Just can't bring myself to do it, i see so many people on the streets that i would just love the take photos of, but i'm just too scared at the kind of reaction i might get! This is a great shot, love the B&W, look forward to seeing more:)
As others have said, the composition is very appealing. the curve brings the eye in to that one person. B&W works very well. I'm not really comfortable taking pictures of strangers either. I don't know how pleased I would be if my picture were being taken so tend not to do it to others. On the other hand, I may give it a bash at some point.
This is just fabulous!!! I live in a town of oly about 60,000 people and we don't really have "street people" of sorts. There is no outrageous clothes or "interesting @Robin Warner" characters to speak of and I don't have the nerve to ask those who are a little different..... One day I will !
Great shot! I don't think the discomfort comes from shyness - for me, it's more the feeling that I'm invading someone's privacy. I know that they're "fair game" because they're in public, but I wouldn't like it if someone took my pic without asking so is it right for me to do that to someone else? I still haven't some to terms with that and may never figure it out.
It's very effective that he's so far away and no one else in the shot! Great shot--sometimes it's better to be far away and just capture the entire scene! Awesomeness Jer!
I have to confess your words made me laugh pretty hard after my street photography experience. It was on my bucket list too. I think it might be less scary for a man, but maybe not. My daughter who has only been on 365 a few weeks or so has already had a prostitute chase her down and demand she erase the photos, which she did. Yikes!
But your photo is very beautiful. I love the curve of that long bench that leads to that one lone person. Artistically, it's pretty perfect.
excellent shot, love the rthym and the way your eye follows and finds the lone person on the bench. bresson made an art out of street photography and yes it can feel awkward stalking one's photographic prey, hee,hee have a dutch friend bas bogers who is a wonderful street photographer, check him out on flicker and keep with your project!!!

Yours are so good! I need a little lesson! ;) @michaelelliott Thank you very much, Michael! :) @lauriehiggins So funny, I was thinking of you and what happened to you while I was walking around looking for my prey! I'll have to check them out! @ebdubay Thank you, Erinn! :)
Cool shot, I love the way it leads you into the shot, I'm incredibly shy so find it impossible to do street photography, I can't even ask the guys at work if I can take their photos!
i LOVE the look of that bench and how it carries our eye right to the man sitting! brilliant capture jerry! if this is you not sure about how well you will do with street photography....your krazy! LOL. i CANT WAIT to see more!
One thing about photography which is a bit sneaky is that a lens only looks so wide from the pointy end. Unsuspecting victims won't necessarily know you've got a wide angle lens attached and will think you're shooting around them. Having said that, I'm still too chicken for street photography on my own.
You;ll probably gonna get better and better photos once you try more:D
